In 2024, iSlow Coliving proudly launched its creative journey with our very first artistic residency, a significant step in our mission to capture the unique essence of Galician idiosyncrasy and culture through illustration. This exciting beginning was made possible by Creative Moves Europe, which brought us two remarkable artists, including Hungarian illustrator Juli Jasdi.
Juli’s residency marked a milestone for iSlow as we embarked on this shared journey of cultural exploration and artistic expression. Her project focused on preserving and amplifying Galicia’s heritage through evocative illustrations and designs, fostering connections between locals and internationals while celebrating the richness of the region’s traditions.

Preserving the Heart of Galicia
During her residency, Juli dedicated herself to creating illustrations that captured the intangible essence of Galician culture. Inspired by local anecdotes, expressions, and traditions, she aimed to highlight the nuances of life in A Costa Da Morte. Her art served as a vehicle for sharing thought-provoking messages about inclusivity, unity, and the importance of celebrating local pride while embracing international connections.
By focusing on visual storytelling, Juli brought to life the deep-rooted heritage of Galicia, allowing audiences to connect with its essence on an emotional level. Her designs encouraged reflection and fostered a sense of belonging, both among locals and those new to the region.
Workshops That Fostered Community Connection
A key highlight of Juli’s residency was her hands-on involvement with the local community. She led a series of engaging workshops at iSlow, inviting participants to share their stories, experiences, and expressions. These collaborative sessions became a platform for exchanging ideas and building connections, empowering locals to see their cultural heritage reflected in Juli’s artwork.
Through these workshops, Juli not only celebrated Galician traditions but also encouraged active participation in their preservation. Residents walked away with a renewed sense of pride and a shared understanding of the importance of cultural storytelling.

Immersing in A Costa Da Morte
Living and working at iSlow Coliving gave Juli the opportunity to fully immerse herself in the unique landscape and way of life in A Costa Da Morte. This on-site experience was vital for her creative process, as it allowed her to engage directly with the local environment and community.
From the windswept coastline to the heartfelt conversations with residents, every moment of her residency inspired Juli’s designs. This direct engagement added authenticity to her work, ensuring that her illustrations resonated with the lived experiences of the Galician people.
A Transformative Journey for Juli
For Juli, this residency fulfilled a long-held dream of creating socially engaged art that explores and expresses cultural narratives. The opportunity to work in Galicia not only allowed her to expand her portfolio but also deepened her understanding of how to translate intangible cultural elements into visual art.
Her time at iSlow was transformative, both professionally and personally, as it gave her the chance to explore new techniques and develop meaningful connections with the local community. The illustrations she created during her residency stand as a testament to her passion for cultural preservation and storytelling.
A Legacy of Connection and Creativity
Looking back on Juli Jasdi’s residency, we are incredibly proud of what was accomplished during this inspiring chapter of iSlow Coliving’s story. Juli’s work left a lasting impact on the local community, fostering a sense of pride and belonging while sparking meaningful conversations about unity and inclusivity.
This residency not only celebrated the beauty of Galician culture but also demonstrated the power of art to bring people together, transcending borders and languages. It was the perfect start to iSlow’s creative mission, and it set the tone for many more collaborations to come.
As we continue to build on this foundation, we remain committed to supporting artists and fostering cultural exchange through future residencies. Juli’s work will always hold a special place in our journey, reminding us of the beauty of connection and the importance of preserving Galicia’s rich heritage.
