Life at iSlow

A different way to work, live and connect, on the Costa da Morte

iSlow is a place for people who travel with curiosity and an open mind. Who enjoy good conversation as much as good work. Who feel at home when there’s a shared table, a coastal walk, or an unexpected connection with someone they just met.

Here, on the Costa da Morte — Galicia’s wild and largely undiscovered Atlantic coastline — slowing down isn’t a retreat from life. It’s a return to it.

Life here has a rhythm. Mornings at your desk, lunch that takes longer than it should, an afternoon walk to the beach, dinner with whoever’s around. Work gets done. So does everything else.

A Week at iSlow

No two weeks here are the same — and that’s not something we say to sound interesting. It’s just true. The house changes with the people in it.

Some groups cook together every night. Others are more independent. Some weeks there’s a spontaneous trip to a festival, a group surf lesson, a long dinner that turns into a late one. Other weeks are quieter — everyone deep in work, the house calm, the evenings short. Neither is wrong.

Inés and Julio are here, and they create the conditions for things to happen. But the experience isn’t something we deliver to you. It’s something that gets built by whoever is living here at the time — the mix of people, what they bring, what they feel like doing.

What stays roughly constant: mornings tend to be for working, the table fills up at lunch, and by evening the house has usually figured out what it wants to do. Beyond that, it depends on who’s here.

That’s part of why stays start at two weeks. It takes a few days to settle in, learn each other’s rhythms, understand what this particular version of the house is going to be. The second week is when it clicks.

Slow Life

In Laxe, slow living isn’t a philosophy you adopt — it’s just how things work. The village has a festival calendar older than anyone can remember. People here have always known each other by name.

At iSlow it’s not about doing everything slowly. It’s about doing things at the right speed — which sometimes means a long lunch, and sometimes means a focused four-hour work session with the door closed.

We try to be conscious about how we spend our time and what we consume. We buy locally, eat seasonally, and support the people around us. Not as a statement. Just as a way of living.

Slow Food

The Slow Food philosophy puts emphasis on the origin of its produce, the preparation of traditional meals and the satisfaction of sitting down to share it with others. These are values that connect us to our traditions. Galicians were “slow” long before we even knew about slow food.

In Galicia, gastronomy is the common thread. Food brings us together around a table to share moments with family and friends. At iSlow, we advocate for a slow pace when it comes to food. We are committed to the local, sustainable and healthy. Luckily we live in an environment surrounded by small producers and local farmers who take great care of their produce. Fresh fish and seafood are landed every morning in the harbour at Laxe, just 1 km away.
